Abstract

The article discusses the results of the study of dental pathologies of the Late Krotovo (Сhernoozerskaya) population of the Baraba forest-steppe, which left a part of the Tartas-1 burial site. The burial ground is located on the floodplain terrace of the right bank of the Tartas in the Vengerovo dictrict of the Novosibirsk area region. The series was examined for pathological changes in the dental system. These include caries, changes in the periodontal structure, enamel hypoplasia, calculus, fluorosis, intravital loss of teeth, and intravital enamel chips. The results of the study suggest that the studied population had the mixed diet of the food strategy with a significant predominance of the plant component, despite the fact that, according to archeology, the economic structure of the population was based on cattle-breeding. A comparative intergroup analysis by the method of principal components revealed a significant difference between the complex of dental pathologies of the studied group and the complex which is characteristic to the other populations of the Ob-Irtysh interfluve of the Bronze Age. The general dental health of the Tartas-1 series can be estimated as rather poor.
