Abstract

In the paper we present results of the metric studies of the ancient skeletal materials from Primorye region. The results of canonical variate analysis of cranial and osteo-metric parameters reveal high level of population continuity in this area from Neolithic till Early Iron Age. Also our data suggest origin of ancient groups of Primorye and Baikal areas from one single metapopulation. While Cis-Baikal Neolithic and Early Bronze Age populations resulted from admixture of descendants of this metapopulation with groups of different origin (probably Southern and West Siberians), Trans-Baikal and Far East populations retained morphological specificity at least till the Early Iron Age time.

Key words: Neolithic, Early Iron Age, Primorye, Cherepakha 13–15, Boysman-2 burial sites, craniometry, osteometry.
